I’ve been experimenting with mixed media this week and it’s taken me back to when my children were young and those preschool days of cutting and glueing – so much fun! I must admit, I used to help them a little too much! In fact, I remember being told to just let them do it themselves by many a teacher!
I have a few watercolour paintings in my studio that I started a while ago and just wasn’t happy with where they were at. There was something not quite right with them. I decided to experiment and see if I could ‘rescue’ them.
I have played around with collage in the past and have collected qutie a few different tissue papers and printed papers so it was time to get the scissors and glue out!
For this portrait I added a floral headdress to add a real ‘pop’ of colour. I also decided to darken the background to further highlight the florals and bring them forward. I then added some vines and leaves (my favourite!) with gel pens and metallic watercolour paints. I think this has really brought her to life and I’m pretty happy with the result!
