About Me
Hello, I’m Kay Shanley — a visual artist living in beautiful St Helens, Tasmania. I paint expressive portraits and florals that explore themes of resilience, beauty, and transformation. My work is shaped by my own life journey, from a difficult childhood in the English countryside to finding peace and purpose through creativity.
For many years, I worked as a graphic designer, but my heart was always in fine art. Now, I paint primarily in oils and watercolour, drawn to the richness of colour, light, and texture. My pieces often feature strong, contemplative women surrounded by botanical elements or birds—symbols of growth, hope, and the passage of time. I’m influenced by the elegance of Art Nouveau and artists like Gustav Klimt, and I often include subtle metallic details for a touch of enchantment.
My paintings have been exhibited locally and nationally, including as a finalist in the Henry Jones Art Prize. But what means the most to me is when someone sees their own story reflected in my work—when a piece stirs a memory, a feeling, or a sense of connection.
Thank you for visiting. I hope my art speaks to something meaningful in you too.
