Soft lavender petals unfold against a rich background of deep blues, greens and loose watercolour washes, with little touches of gold adding warmth and light.
Peonies are one of my favourite flowers to paint, and in this piece I loved combining the softness of the flower with a darker, more dramatic background. The gold details weave through the leaves and centre of the bloom, giving the painting just that little bit of magic.
